PRAGUE (AP) – Thousands of Czechs rallied in the capital on Thursday against President Milos Zeman, accusing the pro-Russian leader of treason over the alleged involvement of Russian spies in a massive ammunition explosion in 2014 in the Czech Republic.

Protesters, who wore face masks and followed social distancing rules, dispersed across central Wenceslas Square in Prague. Other gatherings were held in dozens of cities across the country.

They called on the upper house of the Czech Parliament, the Senate, to bring treason charges against Zeman. They said his recent comments side with Russia and cast doubt on the country’s security and intelligence findings regarding the 2014 explosion, calling it a “servant of the Kremlin” and a “security risk” for the country. the country.

The Senate has already announced that such an approach is being considered.

Czech officials said on April 17 they had evidence indicating the involvement of two agents from the Russian military spy agency in the explosion of the depot that killed two people. Russia has denied this.

The same two Russians were indicted in absentia by British authorities in 2018 for attempting to kill former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter with the Soviet-era nerve agent Novichok in the English town of Salisbury.

After a week of silence, Zeman, who is known for his pro-Russian views, said on Sunday that the explosion could have been caused by human error and urged authorities to investigate the option. Government ministers said that was not true.

Unlike other lawmakers and officials briefed on the investigation, Zeman claimed there was no conclusive evidence of the Russian’s involvement. His words have been widely repeated by the media and the Russian authorities.

The other 26 countries of the European Union and NATO allies have expressed their full solidarity with the Czech Republic.

The results culminated in a serious diplomatic crisis between the Czech Republic and Russia, with dozens of diplomats ordered to leave their respective embassies.

Czech lawmakers change election law to help small parties https://kinoobzor.net/czech-lawmakers-change-election-law-to-help-small-parties/ https://kinoobzor.net/czech-lawmakers-change-election-law-to-help-small-parties/#respond Thu, 29 Apr 2021 15:54:15 +0000 https://kinoobzor.net/czech-lawmakers-change-election-law-to-help-small-parties/

PRAGUE (AP) – The upper house of the Czech parliament on Thursday approved changes to the electoral law requested by the country’s highest court, which ruled that the previous legislation discriminated against small political parties.

In February, the Constitutional Court rejected rules that it said gave major parties a disproportionate number of parliamentary seats after an election, saying this was not in line with the proportional representation system used in lower house elections. of Parliament.

Senate lawmakers approved the new rules in a 54-0 vote.

The centrist movement ANO (YES) led by Prime Minister Andrej Babis won big in the 2017 election, garnering 29.5% of the vote, which translated into 78 seats in the 200-seat lower house. It would only win 69 seats with the same result, under the new rules.

At the court’s request, the lower house also amended parts of the law under which parties join forces to run as a coalition.

To win parliamentary seats, any party must reach a threshold of 5% of the popular vote. Biparty coalitions will need 8% support while three parties will need 11%. Previously it was 5%, 10% and 15%.

The lower house had approved the changes earlier in April.

President Milos Zeman has previously indicated that he is ready to sign the legislative changes so that they will be in place for the October 8-9 parliamentary elections in the country.

Prices for new apartments in Prague increased by 5.5% https://kinoobzor.net/prices-for-new-apartments-in-prague-increased-by-5-5/ https://kinoobzor.net/prices-for-new-apartments-in-prague-increased-by-5-5/#respond Fri, 23 Apr 2021 07:00:00 +0000 https://kinoobzor.net/prices-for-new-apartments-in-prague-increased-by-5-5/

Year on year, selling prices for new apartments in Prague rose an average of 5.5% to 112,233 CZK per square meter, compared to an appreciation of 2.2% last year, property developers report.

Data from construction companies also showed that the number of apartments sold skyrocketed by about three-fifths to 2,100, the highest number in the past decade. At the same time, the number of apartments on offer fell by more than a tenth to 4,200, the fewest in the past three years.

By category, developers mainly sold two-room apartments, or 44%. Next come one-bedroom apartments (23%), three-bedroom apartments (22%) and four-bedroom apartments (11%).

Among the individual city districts, developers sold the most apartments in Prague 5 (23%), Prague 9 (18%) and Prague 4 (16%). In contrast, in Prague 1 and 2, only 3% of all apartments were sold.

Real estate developers say prices will continue to rise provided local governments approve new projects at the same rate they are currently doing.

“Currently, the market is experiencing record demand for new housing. The highest in ten years, in fact. However, the situation is further complicated due to the lack of new construction of residential housing, which is currently insufficient to meet the needs of the public in a timely and flexible manner. The reason remains the same – the complicated and lengthy process to authorize new projects, ”said Marcel Soural, Chairman of the Board of Trigema Company.

“The situation is becoming critical. The new supply has absolutely no time to cover the increase in demand, which is why we are now seeing the fewest apartments on the market in three years. For this reason, the prices of new apartments continue to rise. If the situation with the authorization of new apartments does not change and local governments remain reluctant to approve new construction, the current state will not improve, ”said Dušan Kunovský, owner of housing company Central Group .

According to the real estate portal Bezrealitky, prices for renting apartments with a separate working space are also on the rise. The portal associates this trend with a prospect of working from home even after the coronavirus restrictions are lifted.

By far the greatest interest in studio apartments is in Prague and Brno, which are also the cities with the highest office density per capita.

These types of apartments are offered at a higher price – apartments with a working room are around fifteen percent more expensive than comparable facilities.

6 less crowded parks for a spring walk in Prague https://kinoobzor.net/6-less-crowded-parks-for-a-spring-walk-in-prague/ https://kinoobzor.net/6-less-crowded-parks-for-a-spring-walk-in-prague/#respond Sat, 17 Apr 2021 07:00:00 +0000 https://kinoobzor.net/6-less-crowded-parks-for-a-spring-walk-in-prague/

Prague has many beautiful sites and parks around the metropolis. We’ve compiled a list of those that might be of interest to those trying to avoid the crowds.

Riegrovy Sady is awesome, but maybe you want some more peace? Here is the list.

Vojanovy sady is a small park and garden located behind the building of the Ministry of Finance in Mala Strana. This garden-park offers walkers beautiful greenery and lush flowers in spring. Peacocks even hide in this area, so be careful! Dogs are not allowed here for this reason.

Vojanovy sady

Na Cibulce park looks more like a forest than a park, and it’s one of the biggest. So, get ready to explore and see a lot! It is located in Prague 5, and the area is quite majestic. There is an old abandoned watchtower on top of a small hill.

If you descend a staircase from the base of the tower, you can sit on one of the benches and admire the view of the watchtower from a lower vantage point. There is also a quaint and lonely statue right in front of the benches. Some people said it was a statue of Chronos, among others.

If you want to explore a little more, a short walk through the park will take you to a quaint little pond next to a small bridge. Beyond Cibulce is a natural park, so it really is the perfect place to spend a whole day walking and enjoying the outdoors in the springtime.

Na Cibulce

Ladronka is the ideal park for proactive people who want to enjoy and participate in a sport during this spring season. You probably can’t enjoy the beach volleyball and soccer field yet, but you can still take a walk there.

Ladronka is also popular with inline skaters who want to enjoy the 4.2 km circuit. Need a boost of energy – maybe a snack? There is a delicious restaurant called Ladronka Estate on the grounds of the park.

Ladronka

Kuličkové hřiště is a unique playground in Prague 6. Its main attraction is a colorful artificial “mini-hill” on which families and children can play. There is even a small tunnel running through the play area, which toddlers can use as a passage. Definitely worth a visit, especially on a sunny spring day for families.

Kuličkové hřiště

Max van der Stoel is a park in Prague 1-Hradčany, with a small picturesque pond, greenery and a mini-forest. The central focal point of the park is a long linear water feature which is interactive and a real delight for the little ones. Kids can also enjoy balance blocks, a rope pyramid, or a barefoot trail. This park is located on the tram line at Hládkov station.

Max van der Stoel Park

To be one of the most idyllic parks in Prague, Stromovka is not as crowded. That’s probably because it’s a bit off-road, at least by city park standards. Stromovka is neighbor to Prague Zoo and Troya Castle and Gardens in Prague 7.

The park is huge and beautiful, so there are many ways to get there. Stromovka offers views, ponds, greenery, a lush promenade, children’s toys and even ice rinks. There is also a huge villa located in the center of the park. You can definitely take a look.

Many young Czechs are leaving “Mama Hotels” to live independently in Airbnb apartments freed by the crisis https://kinoobzor.net/many-young-czechs-are-leaving-mama-hotels-to-live-independently-in-airbnb-apartments-freed-by-the-crisis/ https://kinoobzor.net/many-young-czechs-are-leaving-mama-hotels-to-live-independently-in-airbnb-apartments-freed-by-the-crisis/#respond Fri, 16 Apr 2021 07:00:00 +0000 https://kinoobzor.net/many-young-czechs-are-leaving-mama-hotels-to-live-independently-in-airbnb-apartments-freed-by-the-crisis/

The coronavirus crisis has left thousands of apartments for short-term rent through platforms such as Airbnb unused. In order to generate at least some money, many landlords rent them out at reasonable prices and they find new tenants, especially among young people.

Most of the recently vacated apartments are located in extremely attractive locations that would not normally be affordable for young people. For example, one-room apartments in Prague’s Kampa or near Wenceslas Square, where normally the monthly rent would be around KKr 18,000, suddenly become available for 10,000 a month, and young people take them, Radim Bajgar, a partner in the Mint Investments Group, which manages properties worth more than SEK 15.5 billion, including rental apartments, told the ihned news site.

Other real estate companies contacted by the site confirmed a growing interest in apartments on the part of young people between the ages of 20 and 30 who wish to leave their homes. They say the decision is often hastened by friction during the lockdown when people have been forced to spend weeks locked in their homes with other family members.

The trend is also confirmed by the association of financial institutions offering savings and mortgage loans. According to their survey, the pandemic is helping to make more young people independent. While six years ago, one in three Czechs aged 26 to 30 lived with their parents, today it is one in five. Most young people who leave their parents rent an apartment on their own or with others. In the Czech Republic, women leave home on average two years earlier than men. Last year, young women left home at an average age of 24.7 years, while for men it was 26.9 years.

The trend is most visible in the capital. In Prague, the effects of the pandemic on the rental market are clearly visible and rents have fallen sharply, especially in the city center. However, the situation is radically different in Brno and Ostrava where rents continue to rise.

On its website, the city of Prague clarified that the 30% reduction will only apply to the third and fourth quarters of last year. Specifically, the director of the city’s property management department Jan Rak explained: “The granting of rent discounts will be in the form of an amendment to the existing rental contract.
